Covid booster coverage lowest in two NE states and Jharkhand
Meghalaya, Nagaland and Jharkhand have the lowest coverage of precautionary/booster dose of Covid vaccine in the '18 years and above' age group, according to health ministry data. Till August 30, Meghalaya has administered precautionary dose to only 8% of its eligible population in this age group while Jharkhand and Nagaland have been able to jab 9% of beneficiariesn this category.
Other states and UTs significantly lagging behind in administering the precautionary dose are Punjab (10%), Haryana (10%), Goa (11%) and Chandigarh (11%). The booster dose coverage in states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Bihar and West Bengal stands at 13%, 32%, 21%, 23% and 24%, respectively.
The best performing states/Union Territories are Andaman and Nicobar Islands (78%), Ladakh (59%), Puducherry (42%), Chhattisgarh (35%) and Andhra Pradesh (34%).
