Chandigarh: Experts attend talk on air pollution

CHANDIGARH: A one-day colloquium on 'Air Pollution in India: Learning from the US examples' was jointly organised by the Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, and School of Public Health, Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Various stakeholders including air quality scientists, policy makers and students interacted with Professor James Schauer, a leading air quality expert and director of Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The event was also attended by Isabella Detwiler, Deputy Minister Counsellor, US Embassy, and Christopher, scientific officer, Environment Science and Technology Affairs, US Embassy.

S Narayanan, member secretary, Haryana Pollution Control and T C Nautiyal, member secretary, Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee led the discussion on air quality policies and implementation.

Dr Siby John from PEC, Dr Manoj Raje and Dr Chaudhaary from IMTech, Dr Radheshyam Sharma from Department of Environment, Haryana and Vivek Pandey from Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee participated in the discussion to improve the air quality in the region.
