BENGALURU: The high court has directed BBMP to submit measures taken to ensure segregation of biomedical waste generated from homes where Covid-19 patients are in isolation as well as that generated by dedicated hospitals treating infected people.

A division bench headed by chief justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka gave this direction while pointing out that the issue at hand is very important as well as crucial vis-a-vis preventing the spread of the virus. The BBMP and the state government have to respond within a week. They have also been told to indicate measures taken to implement Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.

As regards putting a cap on transportation charges of medical oxygen cylinders, the court pointed out that certain flaws have crept into the October 28 notification issued by the government.

A proper order needs to be issued within a week which will ensure there is a rationalised formula for fixing transportation charges so that no transporters of oxygen cylinders can indulge in profiteering, the bench said.
