Ayurveda doctors condemn CM’s remarks
Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI) has strongly condemned chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that those who do not possess required qualifications could practice the system of medicine.
In a statement issued here, AMAI state president Dr Raju Thomas and general secretary Dr Sadath Dinakar said the chief minister's remarks went against the Supreme Court verdict. “In an order on April 13, 2018, the top court categorically maintained that only those with recognised qualification and registration from the Medical Council can practice ayurveda. Those who are supposed to implement the order are talking against its spirit,” it said.
AMAI said allowing traditional practitioners to treat the patients was an insult to doctors who have spent years to learn in a systematic way. It also warned against quacks. Vijayan had made the observations while inaugurating the ayurveda centre for sports medicine at Thrissur the other day. tnn
