Attingal : Ambulance service staff help woman deliver at home
The staff of emergency ambulance service, 108, who have earned the repute of helping women give birth safely inside ambulance were in for a different challenge at Venjaramoodu on Thursday.
Leela, wife of Murali, a native of Mulamkunnu Lakshamveedu in Thycaud, went into labour around 11pm on Thursday. Her relatives called the service to take her to the nearest hospital.
When the family health centre at Vamanapuram was contacted, emergency medical technician Renjith K P and ambulance pilot Pradeep S reached the spot. However, Leela was not in a condition to travel to the hospital. The duo spared no time in deciding what to do as every minute was crucial. The staff quickly made all arrangements to help her deliver at her residence.
Leela, a mother of two, gave birth to a boy by 11.25pm. After giving preliminary treatment, both the mother and child were taken to SAT Hospital for Mother and Child. They are doing fine, hospital authorities said. There were many instances where the staff had help women give birth in ambulance. In March, a woman had delivered in a 108 ambulance on the way to hospital at Nedumangadu.
