Are doctors right in going for patient consent forms in even common diagnoses?
Consent forms are not necessary for any common diagnosis. This will just create unnecessary waiting time for patients.

Consent forms are not necessary for any common diagnosis. This will just create unnecessary waiting time for patients. People will opt out of check-ups due to pointless formalities. But, this practice would be relevant for critical treatments that could have adverse effects, like UV radiation and more.

There is nothing wrong with making patients sign the dotted line before permitting doctors to diagnose. The patient must know that they chose to visit this doctor. Earlier, this permission was implied but due to recent events, it doesn’t hurt to have this on paper to safeguard both from future complications.

Consent forms should be mandatory as it seems that patients/their kin no longer trust a doctor’s word. Many have already Googled their symptoms and self-diagnosed, thinking doctors just sign prescriptions. Forms are signed only after doctors explain the disease and treatment procedures in detail with the success and failure rates. Sadly, prevalent mistrust might make doctors need consent even for common cold cures.

Patients go to doctors of their own free will. If anything goes wrong, doctors are subjected to violence or lawsuits. Consent could be a viable defence in these cases.

Yes. The people brought it on themselves. They could choose legal recourse, but they chose violence. Now we have to deal with the mess a few foolish people created.
