Anesthesia a boon for patients: Experts
Pain relief is a vital part of palliative treatment in many chronic conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, slip-disc and other conditions. As of now, patients have to rely on morphine and other strong painkillers. But they have serious side effects: Prof Tanmay Tiwari, secretary at ISA Lucknow and faculty at anesthesia department of KGMU.
The event was organised by Indian Society of Anesthesiology (ISA) Lucknow chapter. Various programmes, including a CME awareness drive, cycle and torch rally, poster completion and street play were conducted with participation of around a hundred members.
On the occasion, Prof Tanmay Tiwari, secretary at ISA Lucknow and faculty at anesthesia department of KGMU said, “Pain relief is a vital part of palliative treatment in many chronic conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, slip-disc and other conditions. As of now, patients have to rely on morphine and other strong painkillers. But they have serious side effects.’
President of ISA Lucknow Dr Sandeep Sahu said, “Earlier, we had to make every patient fully unconscious for a surgical procedure that had major risks. But now, we can sedate the targeted organs or regions before operation.”
