“It is a proud occasion for us as the AMA Blood bank, established on May 28, 2003, has been accredited with NABH on Friday. The NABH recognition will remain in effect from July 29, 2022 to July 28, 2025,” said Dr Sujit Singh, president AMA.
Singh said “The blood bank functions round-the-clock all through the year. Located at Stanley Road, it is known for its high standards and thus was accorded NABH recognition after thorough assessment by experts of national repute,” he said. He further said the blood bank operates by fully automated machines and is fully computerised, featuring bar code with negligible human error.
Public relation officer (PRO), AMA, Dr Anoop Chauhan said: “The AMA blood bank is one of the few blood banks in the country that provide leukopure blood to all patients as required. Therefore, the chances of reaction with blood taken from AMA blood bank are negligible. We have computerised thumb screening of blood donor, blood grouping, cross matching and antibody testing fully automated machines in which possibility of human error is negligible.”
He further said in blood transfusion, state-of-the-art machines of chemiluminescence are used to protect patients from diseases like Aids, Hepatitis B, C, malaria, etc that can be caused by donors.
“AMA blood bank is the first in the city to provide this facility. Along with this, it is the only blood bank of the city that has the facility of Platelets Apheresis. We have five automatic component extractors from which leuko reduced component is prepared and it is also possible to make small RBC bags as per requirement of newborn babies and paediatric patients through imported Termo sterile tube connector from Japan, which is available in few blood banks of India,” said Dr Chauhan.
