All you need to know about Florona: A double infection of flu and COVID-19

Flu season is never any fun, and with the emergence of the coronavirus, it has only become more stressful. And now the world is reporting cases of a double disaster, here's what we know.

Where has it been reported?
Israel has reported the first ever incidence of both infections in a pregnant patient. Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the young woman was not vaccinated.

Is it a variant?
No, Florona is merely the occurrence of two infections at the same time.

How bad is it?
Israel is still in the process of studying the situation, but Dr Nahla Abdel Wahab, a doctor at Cairo University Hospital, told Israeli media that Florona may indicate a major breakdown of the immunity system, since it's being simultaneously attacked.

Are there other double infections?
Some experts have flagged Delmicron, a combination of Delta and Omicron variants. Moderna's chief medical officer Dr Paul Burton has said it was possible that both the strains can swap genes and trigger a more dangerous variant.
