Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation runs out of yellow fever vaccines

Ahmedabad: The urban health centres run by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been turning away citizens who come to get vaccines for yellow fever as the civic body has run out of stock. Every day about 50 people come to UHCs to get vaccinated for yellow fever.

A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is mandatory if one wants to travel to Africa and the Middle East. At present, UHC health workers are asking citizens to buy their own vaccines from private medical stores and then they administer them and issue certificates.

Sources said people who are in a hurry are spending Rs 1,500-Rs 2,000 to procure these vaccines.
