Ahmedabad : Hospitals fined for letting mosquitoes breed

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has sealed Madimex Advanced Radio Imaging Centre in Paldi and Avadh Residency’s construction site in Odhav in its crackdown against places that allow mosquitoes to breed. The corporation has issued notices to 106 other establishments, many of them hospitals, and collected Rs 4.80 lakh in fines from them.

According to medical health officer Bhavin Solanki, the AMC has checked 262 units and 34 were fined after officials found mosquitoes breeding on their premises.

Solanki said that Syambhu Hospital, Vastral, was fined Rs 1,00,000; Shalby Hospital, Nikol, was fined Rs 25,000; Narayani Hospital, Saraspur, was also fined Rs 25,000; ACG Hospital, Gota, was fined Rs 20,000; Parekh Hospital, Jodhpur, was fined Rs 10,000; and Mamta Hospital, Sarkhej, was also fined Rs 10,000. Other hospitals fined are Star Hospital, E Colony, (Rs 5,000); Vakhariya Hospital, Danilimda, (Rs 3,000); Human Hospital, Navrangpura, (Rs 2,000); Geeta Maternity Home, Behrampura, (Rs 2,000); Shraddha Hospital, Behrampura, (Rs 2,000); Tilak Hospital, Bapunagar, (Rs 2,000), Baby Care Children’s Hospital, Khokhra, (Rs 1,000); Ashirwad Hospital, Khokhra, (Rs 1,000); and Matru Medical Hospital, Bapunagar, (Rs 1,000).

Solanki said that mosquitoes were found breeding on terraces, around scrap material, in open water tanks, cellars, bird feeders, and coolers.

Jeweller fined for encroachment: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has fined a jeweller near Shyamal Crossroads for encroaching upon a footpath. The jeweller had put up a tent which forced people to walk on the road. The AMC fined the jeweller Rs 1 lakh.
