After guv’s prod, Lucknow Univ plans courses in ‘garbha sanskar’
What should a pregnant woman eat and wear? How should she behave in daily life and keep fit with yoga? What kind of music is good for her? All this and much more will now be taught at the Institute of Women’s Studies of Lucknow University.
The new certificate and diploma courses on ‘garbha sanskar’ will be launched in the new academic session. LU will be the first state university to introduce such a course.
The move comes after governor Anandiben Patel, also the chancellor of all state universities, suggested to authorities to train girls on how to perform their prospective role as mothers. She cited the example of Abhimanyu, from the Mahabharata, who learnt warfare skills in his mother’s womb.
In her convocation address in LU last year, Patel had said in India, no formal education is imparted to girls about pregnancy, whereas in Germany, there is a dedicated institute. Though designed mainly for females, male students can also opt for the two courses.
