21-year-old medical student crowned Miss World 2017
Manushi Chhillar clinched the crown for India at a glittering event in Arenam, China
The 21-year-old is the fifth Indian to win this competition. Previous winners of the pageant include Aishwariya Rai, Diana Hayden, Yukta Mookhey and Priyanka Chopra.
Manushi was chosen to represent the country after winning the fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2017.
“ The feeling is still sinking in and very excited to make India proud too. I’m also looklng forward to the year ahead. My parents have always been my pillar of support and having them here by my side has only brought me more strength and joy. My final answer also came to me by having them here with me,” an excited Chhillar said.
Chhillar also won the Head to Head Challenge and the Beauty with a Purpose titles at the pageant.
She was crowned by Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle.
England’s Stephanie Hill was adjudged first runner up and Mexico’s Andrea Meza was the second runner up.
The grand finale was hosted by former Miss World 2013 Megan Young. Chhillar, born to doctor parents from Haryana, studied at St. Thomas School in Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.
In an interview during her grooming, she said: "The only thing I believe is certain in life is uncertainty, and this is what is amazing about the pageant."
