The man has been identified as Dinesh Saragara, a resident of Jamalpur who used to earn his livelihood through daily wages in cloth market, but since a year, he was struggling to make his two ends meet.
Saragara’s sister Geeta Saragara said that her brother was diagnosed with TB a year ago and then he stated taking treatment at TB hospital in Jamalpur. “But as he did not have much money, he could not afford nutritious food and sometimes he even had skipped medicines in want of money. He was sounding shrill every passing day and recently he started suffering respiratory problems,” said Geeta Saragara.
“On Monday, his condition deteriorated and he was unable to breath properly. We rushed him to VS hospital in 108 ambulance. He was hospitalised there and doctors began his treatment, but he had lost hope and told me the suffering was unbearable,” she added.
On Saturday evening, Geeta brought a knife to cut the fruits as doctors had advised her to give her brother a lot of fruits. “I had cut fruits for him and then left the hospital for my home. But when I reached home I came to know that he had cut his throat,” said Geeta.
A senior doctor at VS hospital said that Saragara had suffered grievous injuries to his trachea and he was to soon undergo surgery by ENT doctors but they could not save him from the deadly injury.
Ellisbridge police have registered a case of accidental death and begun investigation.
