The doctors re-implanted his hand within six hours of the injury. It was a challenging task for the doctors to save hand of the patient. Patient reached the hospital with amputated left-hand. He was pale as he lost lot of blood from the amputated hand.
“We have 4-6 hours to re-implant the hand as after 4-6 hours, it becomes difficult to re-implant the hand. But, the patient reached the hospital in time, which makes the surgery successful,” Dr RK Jain, professor, plastic surgery, SMS medical college, who headed the surgery.
The boy, who belonged to Lalsot of Dausa district, suffered the injury at 5.30pm on Saturday, He reached SMS hospital at around 7.30pm and doctors started conducting surgery at 8pm which concluded at 12 midnight. “Arteries, veins, nerves and tendons along with soft tissues were repaired. Bone nailing was also done with the help of orthopaedic and anaesthesia specialists,” Dr Jain said.
Doctors said that they have saved the hand of the patient. Their priority was survival of hand. The circulation of blood in the hand has also been restored. The patient will be allowed to do some exercise of the hand after some time.
