With 650 resident doctors participating in the strike, senior doctors were forced to take charge. However, the large influx of patients led to long queues outside the OPD, with patients in the medicine and other departments waiting for hours to be seen.
Despite the efforts of senior doctors, their limited numbers were insufficient to cope with the patient load, resulting in inconvenience for those seeking medical attention.
Udaipur Resident Doctors Association called for a complete work boycott, prompting all resident doctors to gather in the main porch of the hospital to protest against the hospital administration.
Dr Deepak Ninama, association president, and Dr Jatin Prajapati, general secretary, said that resident doctors at MB Hospital have been facing irregular payment of their stipend, salary, HRA, and arrears for the past year. Despite multiple notifications to the administration, there has been no change in their attitude.
They emphasised that such problems are unique to Udaipur and remain unresolved, unlike in other parts of Rajasthan, they said.
The sudden strike by resident doctors led to the postponement of many operations, with new dates being given to several patients. The duration of the strike remains uncertain, as the resident doctors have declared that they will not return to work until their demands are met.
The intern doctors have also joined forces with the resident doctors, expressing their belief that the issues faced by the resident doctors could affect them in the future as well. They assert that these problems should be resolved promptly to ensure the smooth functioning of the hospital.
