A private hospital has operated upon a rare case of parathyroid cyst. A team of doctors, led by Dr Mohan Kulhari, ENT/ Otorhinolaryngology, of a private hospital successfully performed hemithyroidectomy (the surgery to remove part of the thyroid gland) and removed the cyst from the 53-year-old man.

The patient was brought to the hospital with pain in throat, difficulty in swallowing and fullness in the left side of the neck. “Cystic disease of the parathyroid gland is quite rare as compared to adenomas (a benign tumor) and only around 300 cases of parathyroid cyst have been reported worldwide till date,” said Dr Kulhari.
