Patient dies after oxygen cylinder bursts in Ujjain hospital
In a bizarre incident, an oxygen cylinder burst while medical staff was using a defibrillator to revive a patient put on ventilator in RD Gardi Medical College hospital in Ujjain
The victim died after the blast that caused burns on his neck and face. No injuries were caused to the hospital staff.
The incident took place when Bhagawati Prasad Das, 40, was being revived using a defibrillator, after his pulse went out, hospital sources said. According to the sources Das was brought to the hospital with diarrhea and was put on a ventilator after his condition deteriorated.
An oxygen cylinder was attached to him, while the defibrillator was being used.
Forensic expert Preeti Gaikwad, who visited the site, claimed that the sparks from the defibrillator might have caused the blast. A post-mortem examination will also reveal if the death was caused in the blast or the patient could not be revived.
Chimanganj police have recorded the death and sent the body for autopsy to Indore.
