Munger : Body on hospital bed for 20 hrs
A patient’s body kept lying uncared on a bed in the emergency ward of Munger sadar hospital for almost 20 hours from Thursday night to Friday afternoon due to delay in the arrival of police.
Hospital sources said the patient in a critical condition was brought by a man on Thursday evening, but soon after he was admitted, the attendant vanished into thin air.
The patient died in course of treatment and the doctor on duty as per rule informed the Kotwali police station in writing. However, police allegedly did not turn up to take the unclaimed body in its custody.
It was only after the Munger SP was informed on Friday afternoon that a police team from Kotwali reached the hospital and completed the formalities before sending the body for autopsy.
Kotwali police station SHO Sreeram Chaudhary said the body was cremated on Saturday as no one came to identify it.
According to sadar hospital’s deputy superintendent Dr Rakesh Sinha, an unclaimed body as per the law cannot be shifted from the place of death until police make an inquest.
