MEDANTA CEO calls on CM Raghubar Das
Delhi-based Medanta Group of Hospitals emerged as the main contender for running the super-specialty wing of Ranchi district hospital on Sunday.
A team of five doctors spearheaded by group chairman Dr Naresh Trehan did a recce of the 550-bed facility on Sunday noon. The team later paid chief minister Raghubar Das a visit at his Kanke road residence and discussed ways to propel the project forward. Based on the inspection, the team will prepare a presentation, which in turn will be tabled before the cabinet for consideration, the entourage said.
“This time, the chances of taking over the sadar hospital in a public-private partnership mode (PPP) are cent per cent. Our commitment to the project is complete,” Trehan said.
Medanta has been in the run along with two other private hospital chains, both of which have facilities on the fringes of Ranchi, ever since the Das government decided against inviting tenders. However, according to sources in the government, Medanta’s case appeared to be stronger. “The government invited us and that is why we are here,” confirmed Trehan.
The 550-bed wing, which was completed in 2011, was pitted to run on a PPP mode. A total of six tenders were floated inviting private players, but no favorable alliance worked out. The Das government then opted for nomination process and zeroed in on three private chains early this month.
The team, however, dug out some slack in infrastructure in the facility that lay unused since its completion. “The basic planning of the infrastructure seemed different and some modifications need to be done. We need to look into the aspects of patient safety and hygiene,” a doctor said.
Trehan said, “The families below poverty line (BPL) will be guaranteed free treatment. Those hailing from middle-class will be provided affordable healthcare.”
