Madurai: National cardiology training programme on in city hospital
Doctors at the MMHRC have successfully conducted 300 complex cases of OCT over the last eight months, leading to better detection and diagnosis of heart diseases in patients.
Dr Giulio Guagliumi, leader in use of OCT in coronary arteries from cardiovascular department of Ospedali Riuniti di Bergamo in Bergamo, Italy, and doctors S Selvamani, R Sivakumar, N Ganesan and M Sampathkumar of MMHRC shared their knowledge with the participants during the workshop.
“OCT is much superior in the diagnosis of coronary heart disease compared to coronary angiography, which takes images only in 2D, making it difficult to assess the severity of lesion and plaque burden. OCT also ensures much higher success in coronary stenting. Installation of such a system is a boon for cardiac patients,” said Selvamani.

This new technology can provide quick and accurate diagnosis and help in detecting complications immediately.
