Kolkata: Hospital fined Rs 20,000 for serving bad food

The state clinical establishment regulatory commission has imposed a Rs 20,000 “token penalty” on a private hospital near Baghajatin after insects were found in a patient’s food.

KOLKATA: The state clinical establishment regulatory commission has imposed a Rs 20,000 “token penalty” on a private hospital near Baghajatin after insects were found in a patient’s food.

According to the complaint, the authorities had changed the patient’s food after the insect was found. But even after changing it, the patient found another insect in his food.

The hospital did not dispute the allegations. It said the caterer who served the food was terminated. When the incident took place, the caterer, who supplied food to the hospital, was on his notice period as per an agreement with the hospital.

The commission directed the hospital to pay Rs 20,000 penalty within two weeks and also asked the hospital to be careful in future.
