In the first of this monthly exercise, Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College in Ambajogai emerged as the best performer while Mumbai's Grant Medical College attached to JJ Hospital in Byculla emerged second. Dr Vaishampayan Memorial Medical College in Solapur was placed third.
Although the state has 23 medical colleges, only 19 could be considered for the first performance analysis, said officials. A senior official said that the colleges were judged on various parameters such as number of surgeries performed, absenteeism among teachers, expenditure of CSR funds, among others. "These parameters help us decide which college is better both academically and administratively,'' said the official, adding that the colleges were divided into gold, silver and bronze categories. DMER officials said this is not a competitive exercise.
