AHMEDABAD: The state health department has begun an internal inquiry over the attendance of doctors who are yet to report for duty at their parent GMERS hospitals.

Last September, some 150 doctors of five government-run GMERS hospitals were transferred to new hospitals ahead of MCI inspections. “Most of these doctors were told to report back to their parent posts orally, but these doctors were neither present at the hospital the MCI inspected or their parent hospitals.

We have begun an enquiry as we cannot issue a transfer order till the MCI approves the inspected hospitals,” said a source in the department.
