MGM, under its plan to reduce load off MY Hospital, has decided to shift paediatric health services including PICU at Chacha Nehru Children Hospital and sick newborn care unit (SNCU) at Maharaja Tukojirao Hospital.
“A 20-bed PICU has been planned at Chacha Nehru Children Hospital, which currently has an 8-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). For the proposed facility, we have received a budget of Rs 54 lakh for state government. Further process to set up facility is underway,” MGM dean Dr Jyoti Binbal told TOI.
She added that a SNCU, which is being developed in MTH, will be started after the concerned agency completes work of laying oxygen line. “Project Implement Unit (PIU, PWD) has invited an agency with expertise to lay down oxygen line. After completing work, the unit will be started,” Dr Bindal said.
Due to incomplete work to install oxygen line, college administration’s plan to shift gynaecology health services in 300-bed MTH is also getting delayed.
A fire broke out at SNCU of MY Hospital in November 2017 reducing the entire ward into ashes. In the incident, 28 warmers, three ventilators and cardiopulmonary excise testing (CPET) machines had got damaged, while 47 newborns, who admitted in the ward at the time fire broke out, had a narrow escape. After the incident, the college authorities had sent a proposal of Rs 1.5 crore to National Health Mission (NHM) as expected cost of procuring the medical equipment and carrying civil works of unit.
