HC lens on corporate hospitals over non-conventional medical interventions
Hyderabad High Court on Monday put on notice the states of AP, Telangana, their vigilance wings and a few corporate hospitals over non-conventional medical interventions like 'height gain' surgeries and the like.
A Bench of Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice Anis gave notices to authorities while hearing a PIL that sought government regulation on the rapidly growing private corporate health sector.
Petitioner Narender Kazipeta claimed in his plea that his sister T Sunitha had died during treatment at Care Hospital due to negligence and callousness of the medical staff. He also brought to the court's notice the episode of software professional Nikhil Reddy who underwent an operation, that was touted as a procedure that could add three inches to his height, at Global Hospital. The petitioner's counsel N S Arjun Kumar said the advice of unethical and unscrupulous practitioners had led to a permanent disability in a bright young man.
Besides state authorities, the Bench issued notices to Care Hospital, Global Hospital and Apollo Hospital groups of Hyderabad as the petitioner has named these hospitals as respondents.
