Govt docs in Pollachi and Coimbatore win best doctor awards

COIMBATORE: While 15 doctors in the government sector in Coimbatore walked away with various laurels, four doctors from Pollachi and one doctor from Mettupalayam also received the “best doctor” awards from Tamil Nadu health minister C Vijaya Baskar and health secretary Beela Rajesh last week.

Three out of the five doctors were from Pollachi Government Hospital, who were recognised for their various contributions.

The district administration said three doctors attached to the Pollachi Government Hospital including the resident medical officer, Dr Raja, surgical urologist, Dr Karthikeyan for performing many surgeries and Dr Murugan for performing most number of treatments under chief minister’s comprehensive health insurance scheme.

Besides this, a doctor working with the national health mission, Dr Venkatesh and anesthetist from Mettupalayam Government Hospital, Dr Karthikeyan, also received awards. Dr Karthikeyan got the award for the efficient functioning of the hospital’s CEMONC centre.

Coimbatore saw 15 doctors also receive awards, eight from Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and three from ESI Medical College Hospital. A doctor from the Coimbatore Corporation run SLM Hope, Dr Ilamathi, and two block medical officers also were recognised.
