Delhi govt hospital in Janakpuri set to expand services, add surgery facilities
The Delhi government-run Janakpuri Super Specialty Hospital is going to expand its services by adding surgery facilities to the existing departments. So far, the hospital has been providing only OPD services for the specialty branches.
“We have already got the health department’s approval. Our operation theatres are ready and we hope to make them functional within a month. The procurement for setting up the OTs is completed. We are also taking steps to increase manpower for the purpose,” said hospital director Dr AK Hooda.
There are two state-run hospitals that currently provide specialty treatments, the one at Janakpuri and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital. While the Janakpuri hospital only provides outpatient services, RGSSH conducts surgeries too.
Residents of west Delhi will get relief once the OTs are started. Earlier, surgical cases were referred to other hospitals. The patient load on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital will also come down.
At present, OPD services are being given in cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology and supportive services of laboratory (haematology, cytology, biochemistry, microbiology), radiology, facility integrated testing and counselling centre (F-ICTC for HIV testing), integrated rehabilitation centre (speech therapy, occupational and physiotherapy), cardiodiagnostic, gastrodiagnostic and neurodiagnostic.
“Once the OTs are operational, we can conduct angioplasty, heart surgeries and stent implants to save lives. We are also hoping to start a kidney transplant facility. This will make us the first among all state hospitals to have this facility,” said Hooda. The hospital, constructed on 8.82 acres, was inaugurated in 2008. It has a provision for 250 beds.
Apart from this hospital, residents of west Delhi can also start availing of medical services from the newly opened Indira Gandhi Hospital at Dwarka Sector 9. As part of the expansion plan, the hospital is soon going to start OTs and their construction work has already begun. Surgery would be available from September.
The order for machines for the OTs has already been placed, while fitting work is going on. All work will be completed by August. At present, only minor OT facilities are available in this hospital. Apart from this, cardiology and neurology OPD will also start from August.
