Command Hospital, Pune adjudged 'best Armed Forces hospital'
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the trophy was established in 1989 to honour excellence in medical care given by the armed forces hospitals under the Armed Forces Medical Services and to promote a healthy sense of rivalry among them. The commandant Major General B Nambiar received the award presented by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) Lt Gen Daljit Singh in New Delhi.
The trophy was instituted in 1989 to recognise excellence in healthcare services provided by the armed forces hospitals under the Armed Forces Medical Services and to foster a spirit of healthy competition among them, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
"A panel of four members of the AFMS and MoD visited the hospital and adjudged it the best among seven command hospitals of the armed forces. The panel was impressed with the standard operating procedures of each department of the hospital. Also, the hospital is equipped with advanced medical equipment and facilities," said a senior army officer.
The commandant Major General B Nambiar received the award presented by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) Lt Gen Daljit Singh in New Delhi.
Major General Bhupesh Goyal, who had commanded the hospital from August 2022 to February 2024 and was heading the hospital when the inspection took place was also present at the award ceremony.
The then Chief of Army Staff General M M Naravane inaugurated the hospital at Wanowrie, off Kondhwa Road in January 2021.
It is a multi-speciality tertiary care hospital focused on providing medical support to troops deployed in operational areas and veterans of the armed forces. It is the only hospital of the Armed Forces that provides healthcare to civilians as well.
It has 1082 beds and is one of the largest hospitals in Southern India spread over 100 acres.
