Chandigarh: ECG facility to be provided at PHCs, wellness centres

Chandigarh: Electrocardiogram (ECG) facility would be made available at all primary health centres (PHCs) and health and wellness centres across Punjab. It was announced by Punjab health minister Brahm Mohindra on Tuesday.

“Health wellness centres are catering to a population of 5,000 whereas PHCs cater to 30,000,” he said.

The health minister also disclosed that to strengthen the service delivered at the health and wellness centres, 166 staff nurses would be appointed as community health officers at every health and wellness centre. He said that the nurses have been given special training to provide basic medical care covering 12 general ailments.

Mohindra also reviewed the data of inspections done by civil surgeons under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. He instructed the civil surgeons to increase the frequency of inspections to check illegal sex determination tests and keep a tight watch on the private ultrasound and scanning centres.

The minister appreciated the efforts of district vigilance teams of health department who had been working to unearth illegal drug de addiction centres.
