Cath lab, new DEIC building opened at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy
Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami opened these facilities through video conferencing from Chennai.
While the cath lab -- Philips FD10 Single Plan System -- has been set up at a cost of Rs 3.6 crore, the DEIC has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
MGMGH dean Dr G Anitha said the cath lab would be beneficial for heart patients from Trichy, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur districts. The tests and treatment at the cath lab include angiogram, angioplasty, device closure and mitral valvotomy. The cath lab is expected to function in three to four weeks’ time.
The old DEIC building had space constraints. The new building has been constructed to address this issue. Children with diseases and health issues like congenital cataract, club foot, malnourishment, rickets, anemia and kwashiorkor would be treated at the centre.
Trichy district collector K Rajamani was present during the inauguration event.
