Aurangabad: Super-specialty wing of Government Medical College and Hospital to start by September
The development would be a significant step towards quality healthcare for patients across Marathwada.
The GMCH Aurangabad has been approved a 248-bed super-specialty block under the centre’s Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
The facility, inside the GMCH premises, is being set up at a cost of Rs 150 crore - a shared contribution between the state and the Centre. The project was supposed to be completed by end of 2017.
According to SK Bhatnagar of the HSCC, the government of India undertaking that has the contract for the civil construction of the block, about 95% of the specialist wing has been completed. “The remaining 5% is waiting for power and water connections. We will be able to start the project once the connections have been set up,” Bhatnagar said.
Yelikar said the work is on for the installation of the MRI machine and catheter lab. “This equipment requires specific civil construction. Hospital furniture including beds and cupboards have arrived. Purchase of hospital furniture and equipment worth Rs 20 crore, out of Rs 49 crore approved, has been done by the contracted agency and the installation would be completed soon,” she said.
When asked about the water and power supply to the hospital, Yelikar said that the fund required for power connection has been approved. “The tender process for inviting the contractor to install the KV substation has been stuck because of the ongoing model code of conduct. The tender will be issued after August 28, ” she said.
