At 70%, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial government hospital betters Tamil Nadu average in normal deliveries
The dean said that 102 neonatal surgeries and 86 postnatal surgeries were performed in the last six months.
On an average, 30 deliveries are performed daily at the MGMGH, the dean said. “Till last year, only 40% deliveries were normal and the remaining were caesarean. But now, normal deliveries have increased to 71%, which is the highest in the state,” she said, adding that the state average stood at 40%. She credited it to dedication and coordination of doctors across government hospitals in the district.
While stating that the hospital has been effectively handling paediatric surgery, especially those with congenital issues, the dean pointed out that that issues like aborectal malformation - which is poor growth of intestine at the time of birth - are corrected with advanced laparoscopic surgery.
The dean said that 102 neonatal surgeries and 86 postnatal surgeries were performed in the last six months.
On Friday, the hospital had called a few mothers who shared their experience and the treatment they received, especially whose children went through critical operation right after birth.
