Arrest warrant against CEO of private hospital

KOLKATA: A Kolkata metropolitan magistrate on Friday issued an arrest warrant against the CEO of a reputable south Kolkata private hospital in a medical negligence case.

According to sources, Sanjay Poddar, 51, had died in Belle Vue Clinic, Kolkata, on September 7, 2016. His wife had moved the West Bengal Medical Council against four doctors and lodged a criminal case against the doctors and the hospital CEO.

During the hearing on Friday, the court issued the warrant against the CEO while directing the other doctors to appear in court on February 1.

CEO Pradip Tondon said, “I am not in Kolkata. I will return on Saturday and will attend the court proceedings on February 1, as directed. This relates to a medical negligence case against me and others. I have been made to understand that the problem arose due to one of the defendants causing delay in filing an affidavit. We will explain everything in court on the designated day.”

A separate complaint filed in the West Bengal Medical Council is being heard. A similar case is also being heard in the consumer forum. The incident, however, preceded the formation of the state health regulatory commmission.
