Apollo launches Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System for complex surgeries
Robotic procedures are a safe and effective alternative to open and laparoscopic surgeries, offering particular advantages in technically challenging situations. Multi-quadrant operations, such as colorectal surgeries have unique challenges during robot-assisted surgery and it is here that the Da Vinci Xi Robotic system provides access to all quadrants of the abdomen with several advantages including better vision, better ergonomics, smaller incisions, and reduced risk of infection. It enables surgeons to perform complex surgical procedures with greater accuracy, less blood loss, and faster recovery times for patients: Dr Anil D’Cruz.
Commenting on the launch, Santosh Marathe, Regional CEO, Western Region, Apollo Hospitals, said, “We are proud to launch the advanced Da Vinci Xi Robotic System. We are confident that it will revolutionise clinical outcomes for patients who require complex surgeries. The Da Vinci Xi Robotic system can be used in the field of colorectal surgeries, urology, oncology, gynaecology, thoracic, cardiology, paediatric and gastro-intestinal surgeries, kidney transplants and in liver transplantation. Apollo Hospitals will be training surgeons and clinical talents for the program with equivalent investments for post-operative and rehab care.”
Dr Anil D’Cruz, Director of Oncology, Consultant Surgical Oncology, Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, said, “The robotic procedures are a safe and effective alternative to open and laparoscopic surgeries, offering particular advantages in technically challenging situations. It enables surgeons to perform complex surgical procedures with greater accuracy, less blood loss, and faster recovery times for patients.”
Robotic surgery offers important advantages over laparoscopy or open surgery including improved ergonomics and 3D optics for the surgeon. It decreases the probability of perioperative mortality and wound infections and raises overall survival.
Commending the surgical system, Dr Amol Kumar Patil, Senior Consultant-Urology, Uro-Oncology, Kidney Transplant and Robotic Surgery, Apollo Hospitals, said, “Da Vinci Xi robotic system will help us perform complex surgeries like kidney transplants and major uro-oncology procedures with greater precision, safety, and efficacy. We are confident that the robotic system will make a significant difference in the lives of our patients.”
“Da Vinci Xi Robotic System offers numerous advantages over traditional open surgery. The system provides a sharp 3D view for the surgeon, which increases depth perception. The system also provides better ergonomics for the surgeon, which results in more precision with tremor reduction. It also reduces the risk of infection and leads to shorter hospital stays and recovery times with a quicker return to work for patients. We have seen the benefits of this system in hernias and other general surgery procedures,” concluded Dr Shalin Dubey, Consultant-General Surgery, Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai.
