Ambulance row: JJ Hospital panel seeks more time

MUMBAI: A seven-day extension has been sought by the inquiry committee of the JJ Group of Hospitals looking into allegations that the medical superintendent of state-run St George’s Hospital had been using the hospital’s ambulances for personal purposes. “The committee has asked for more time to look into the matter,” said JJ Hospital dean Dr Pallavi Saple.

An RTI query revealed ST George’s Hospital medical superintendent Dr Madhukar Gaikwad had used the hospital’s four ambulances to travel to meetings or to go home.

The committee was initially given two days to recommend disciplinary action against the superintendent if rules had been broken. DMER chief Dr TP Lahane said no action would be taken until the committee’s report is submitted.
