AIIMS Delhi's Intensive Care & Operation Services Increased by 40% in Last 2 Years: MoS Pratap Jadhav

Over the last two years, inpatient beds have increased by more than 30 per cent, and intensive care and operation theatre services have risen by nearly 40%. The hospital has also established a Centre of Excellence for the development of artificial intelligence in healthcare, expected to deliver AI-based solutions for evaluating chest X-rays, early detection of diabetic retinopathy, and identification of skin lesions, Prataprao Jadhav said at an event celebrating the 69th Foundation Day of AIIMS, Delhi.

New Delhi: Highlighting the operational excellence of AIIMS Delhi, a public healthcare and medical research institute, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, participating on its 69th Foundation Day said, “over the last two years, the inpatient beds in the hospital have increased by more than 30 per cent, while intensive care and operation theatre services have risen by nearly 40 per cent.”

Speaking at an event organized by the hospital, the Union Minister said, “AIIMS New Delhi is a pioneer in medical education, research, and healthcare in India, whose legacy of excellence continues to inspire medical institutions worldwide. It has achieved remarkable milestones and is determined to be among the top-ranked medical institutions globally.”

“The hospital now serves as the national resource centre of the National Medical College Network (NMCN) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This has enabled linkages with more than 100 medical colleges to enhance undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education,” he added.

“AIIMS has already received NABH certification for some of its blocks and centers and is in the process of obtaining NABH certification for all centers, including the main hospital. AIIMS has also been a pioneer in implementing the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and has overcome various challenges, serving as a role model for the country by creating over 7 lakh ABHA IDs and more than 20 lakh scan and share tokens,” said Prof. M. Srinivas, Director, AIIMS New Delhi.

The Union Minister also informed that AIIMS has established a Centre of Excellence for the development of artificial intelligence in healthcare, created by the MoHFW, which is expected to deliver AI-based solutions for evaluating chest X-rays, early detection of diabetic retinopathy, and identification of skin lesions. Additionally, the hospital is responsible for operationalizing the Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) at Maidangarhi.

AIIMS was established in 1956 as part of a larger effort to address the critical need for well-trained healthcare professionals in India. Over the decades, it has evolved to become not only a premier medical college but also a leading research center, contributing significantly to advances in various fields of medicine, the release stated.
