Thane: 500 more beds to be added

Thane: In the next 12 months, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital (CSMH) in Kalwa will get 500 additional beds and adequate staff by using the Rs 71 crore sanctioned by chief minister Eknath Shinde, said municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar on Tuesday.

The TMC will also revise the pay of experienced doctors in a bid to encourage more to join CSM Hospital.

The revamp may be completed in the next eight to 12 months. The administration wants to allocate more space to departments such as medicine, cardiac care, dermatology, that have a heavy inflow of patients.

“We have already started a Rs 8-crore project to relocate the medical college from the hospital campus. This will get us additional space to add 500 more beds and take the total strength to 1,000,’’ he said.
