Mobile apps for vaccination launched
Now pediatricians will not have to physically go through medical records every time they want to administer vaccine to kids they treat.
On the eve of Doctor’s Day that falls on Sunday, Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) in association with Kolkata-based startup Medewise Technology Solutions Private Limited launched mobile applications for child health management and immunization in Vadodara on Saturday.
According to IAP, over two million children under the age of five die every year in the country and another one million or more are disabled for life. A major cause is that parents often forget to vaccinate the child on time.
“IAP had pioneered the Immunize India reminder service to increase vaccination compliance and provide better care and coverage to children all over the country. With the launch of MedEPed and Medewise Kids Pro – the two mobile apps for child healthcare, we are taking child healthcare to the next level by leveraging technology, connectivity and data,” said IAP president Dr Santosh Soans.
“A national text message reminder service, it is a cost effective method of reminding parents that a vaccination is due. After its success in India, it will be launched in Nigeria this year,” he said.
“These two mobile applications are used by pediatrician and parent collaboratively to maintain critical child health data in a cloud based, mobility enabled platform,” said Bidisha Sen, founder of Medewise Technology Solutions, adding that presently there is no system to know efficacy of vaccines administered to the patients.
“We will be reaching out to at least 10,000 doctors across the country urging them to use the mobile apps which will also help in generating the much-needed data regarding efficacy of vaccines, adverse reactions in patients, if any among others. This data will also help IAP to conduct research as well,” she said.
The apps were launched as a part of the two-day Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology Conference with Essentials of Pediatric Infectious Diseases course organized by IAP, IAP Infectious Diseases Chapter and Vadodara branch of Academy of Pediatrics.
