Under IGNOU, GIMS has developed graduate diplomas and certificate programmes in health sciences and postgraduate diplomas in maternal and child health, waste management, and geriatric medicine to help students meet their professional needs.
GIMS director Dr Brig Rakesh Gupta is heading the LSC, and Dr Pinky Mishra, an assistant professor in the obstetrics and gynaecology department at GIMS, is the programme coordinator.
“The LSC has organised academic programmes and courses in coordination with the faculty, staff, and different academic, administrative and service divisions of IGNOU. It will be a centre dedicated to enhancing knowledge, skills and research base in specific domains,” said Dr Gupta.
Most LSC courses have been developed after need-based surveys and will help students meet their immediate professional requirements. The aim is to fulfil learners’ needs for skill enhancement, professional certification, continuing education, and professional development at the workplace.
The admissions for July 2023 have already started. “The candidates can apply from the IGNOU site and choose GIMS as their centre. The last date for application submission is June 30, 2023. These programmes will help fulfil the vision of GIMS to provide access to higher education in all segments. GIMS is the first LSC in this region,” said Dr Gupta.
