RML hospital to start two new cancer detection tests
Patients coming to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) combined hospital can now avail two new testing facilities that enable the diagnosis of cancer.
The hospital administration claimed that is is the first state government hospital which will provide the two tests to patients.
The fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and pap smear test are being introduced by the pathology department of the hospital.
"In FNAC, a very fine needle is used to draw out tissue from a cyst or swelling in the body which is then studied under microscope and is informative in telling if the cyst is cancerous or not. The test results will be delivered in about three days," said director of the hospital, Dr D S Negi.
The other test, pap smear test is used to ascertain cervical cancer in women.
"Cells in the cervix of the uterus are taken out with the help of a spatula and then studied for assessing cervical cancer. Currently, these two tests are available at RML Institute but RML Hospital will also be providing the tests now," said Dr Negi.
