Naval personnel and their families urge to consider organ donation
Of over 1.50 lakh patients who are desperately waiting for a kidney transplant in the country just about 5000 get a donor kidney, said Professor and head of department of Nephrology, JSS Medical College Dr. Manjunath Shetty said as he urged naval personnel to consider organ donation.
“There is a big role an organ donor plays after he dies as he can save other's life. About 150,000 people await kidney transplantation but only 5,000 get amongst them,” said Dr. Shetty while addressing about 200 families of naval personnel at INHS Jeevanti.
He was speaking as part of a health awareness drive focusing on the importance of the kidneys and impact of Kidney diseases and associated health problems.
“Despite the growing burden of kidney diseases, awareness about kidney diseases is inadequate,” said Dr. Shetty. He pointed out the common causes and early symptoms of Kidney diseases and highlighted the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles for preventing Kidney diseases.
