Maharashtra: 2.19 lakh women suspected of hypertension
The screenings, part of the 'Mata Surakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit' programme, were conducted for women over 18 years of age to tackle the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The state's health services went on to screen more than 1.73 crore women over 18, including 81 lakh above 30.

Dr Anirudha Deshpande, assistant health officer with the state's Family Welfare Department said, "This campaign was primarily launched with the intention of early detection. When it comes to non-communicable diseases, there are no immediate signs or symptoms. Often, by the time we understand the impact of these diseases on the body, it's already too late."
