Kerala: Suspected black fever case in Thrissur

According to the district medical officer (DMO) Dr K J Reena, the patient has tested positive only at the preliminary level, and further investigations like bone marrow tests and blood tests are required to confirm the disease.

THRISSUR: A suspected ‘kala azar’ (Visceral Leishmaniasis or black fever) case has been detected from Vellikulangara area in the district.

According to the district medical officer (DMO) Dr K J Reena, the patient has tested positive only at the preliminary level, and further investigations like bone marrow tests and blood tests are required to confirm the disease.

The 77-year-old man had tested positive for Kala azar in 2019 also. Special medical teams are being dispatched to Vellikulangara to control the disease.
