Covid inoculation dips 81% in a week

Indore: Covid-19 vaccine inoculation has drastically dipped 81% in the first week of March from the third in February, showed a comparative analysis of daily vaccine bulletin.

The pandemic virus vaccine weekly inoculation had remained only 7900 from March 01-06, which was way lower than 41,694 from February 16-22, showed records.

The vaccine inoculation remained at only 13,146 in the last week of February from 23-28 of last month, showed records.

The officials blamed it on lesser availability of the eligible population as they are already vaccinated, disinterest of those eligible for different doses, and others.

The supply issues of Covaxin- one of two vaccine candidates administered to 15-17 kids and as precaution dose, also hit momentum of drive in the last couple of months.

CMHO Dr BS Saitya told TOI, “There are some issues inoculations of 60 plus with precaution doses and 15-17 kids causing slowing up of vaccination drive in the district.”

“The 60 plus population is not turning out enthusiastically for precaution dose on sites. In the case of 15-17 kids, the inoculation got stuck after 1.56 lakh, though the target is 1.96 lakh”, said Dr Saitya.

Further explaining it Dr Saitya said, “The staffers tried to search for the remaining kids but were unable to find them. There might be some issues in records.”

The top performer in state in adult age group categories is struggling to inoculate 15-17 kids. The age wise bifurcation showed that only 2.59 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 15-17 kids in the district.

The authorities were given a target of inoculating 1.96 lakh, 15-17 kids with their two doses. The records suggested that still 1.31 doses are required to be administered to achieve the target in this age group.

The district has so far given 65.63 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the eligible population. Of those 65.63 lakh, 33.63 lakh were first dose, 31.04 as second and 96,555 were as precaution dose (third dose).
