Covid cases up in Maharashtra, Mumbai tally steady
The daily Covid tally in the state shot up by 60% to reach 194 on Saturday, with Pune registering the highest single-day increase from 24 (on Friday) to 81. Mumbai remained steady, registering 72 cases for the second day.
While Mumbai registered zero deaths, the lone death in the state was in nearby Palghar.
“We had over 90 cases on Wednesday and Thursday, but are stable now. We are closely monitoring the situation,” said BMC executive health officer Dr Mangala Gomare. She said vaccination coverage has been good in Mumbai and sero surveys have shown widespread exposure to SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The sixth sero survey among BMC employees showed over 99% had antibodies. Cases in both Mumbai and Maharashtra are up. While active cases in Mumbai were around 250 in last week of March, they went up to 503 on Saturday.
