3.7 lakh vaccine doses a day needed to cover entire Madhya Pradesh by year-end

BHOPAL: If at least 3.3 crore people are vaccinated in the next three months, the entire eligible population of Madhya Pradesh will be completely vaccinated for Covid-19 by year-end.

Statistically, around 3.7 lakh people need to be vaccinated everyday for the next three months to achieve this target.

But this is not going to be as straight as it seems. As of now, second dose of close to 50 lakh people is due.

This will not be the same each time.

Unlike the first dose, which could be administered anytime, the second dose can only be administered after 84 days, said sources.

Sources in the health department, however, said that even now for the next two days till September 30, our priority is to vaccinate as much people with the first dose as possible so that no one is left behind.

The detailed strategy for conducting the drive for second dose will be formulated after September 30.

When this report was filed, around 1.47 crore people in the state had received both doses of vaccine.

As per estimated eligible population of the state, there are a total of around 5.5 crore eligible people who need to get vaccinated. Overall, if around 3.5 crore people get vaccinated in the next three months, only then will the entire population will be vaccinated.

Sources said that though the estimated eligible population was said to be 5.5 crore, only around 4.8 crore people in state have received the first dose of vaccine so far.

So, at least 3.3 crore people will have to be vaccinated in the next three months to ensure complete vaccination by year end, the deadline set by Union government.
