Underlining the need for early detection, the minister said in Punjab, the 2020-21 survey revealed a prevalence-notification ratio of 2.8:1, underscoring the critical need for enhanced screening efforts.
"The scheme ensures reimbursement for each OPD consultation under RGHS, while IPD cases receive compensation for actual expenses incurred, thereby creating a revenue stream for the hospitals. The funds generated will be utilised by the hospitals for improving their infrastructure and facilities," said a state govt official.

Saurabh Jain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI, emphasised the timeliness and importance of focusing on genetics, describing it as the foundation of future medical progress.
Akshay Bafna, a cardiologist at CPR Hospital, said: "We are soon to get a new cath lab to perform the minimally invasive procedure to diagnose and treat heart conditions. Currently, we have 80-90 patients approaching for OPD consultation services in the department, and annually the patient count touches around 10,000. Last year, we carried out 1,600 minimally invasive surgeries."
During the searches, officials came across several non-standard medicines being sold from the wholesale units. The officials, along with a large contingent of police, also raided several medical stores in Beleghata.
"Data from our clinics show a 40-50% increase in cases of vomiting, diarrhoea, and low blood pressure over the last few weeks. With mercury expected to further rise in coming days, there could be more such cases," said family physician Dr Anu Preethi Dorai, Apollo Clinic, Anna Nagar.
Talking about MAA Yojana, the official said, "Directions have been issued to ensure that the deficiencies in the claims filed under the MAA scheme are completed by having them monitored properly. This will also increase the revenue of health institutions. If a claim is rejected, the insurance company benefits, and your hospital's financial situation does not strengthen," he said.
The minister urged everyone to unite against rare diseases for the sake of these children.
As part of the programme, senior citizens will benefit from discounted outpatient consultations, diagnostics, and pharmacy services.
Speaking to participants from across the country at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, including experts and doctors from various states, he acknowledged their contributions in enriching the workshop with their experience and insights.
